January 2024 Engineering Update

Dayton Riverfront Commons (Phase 1 and 2)

Project Overview: The City of Dayton and Southbank Partners are working to construct a riverfront trail on the banks of the Ohio River, the grand scope of the project is to build a multi-modal path from Ludlow to Silver Grove, Kentucky. The City of Dayton has constructed Phase 1 of the project, with Phases 2 and 3 looking to a 2024 construction period. Phase 4 was funded by the City of Dayton to move forward with the design phase of the project. Phase 4 is the final phase for the City of Dayton. January 2024 Update:

The City is awaiting final approvals for the plans from the State of Kentucky. The funding for this project, an estimated two million dollars is coming from multiple sources including: ~$1,655,000 from a Federal Transportation Alternatives Grant with the remaining funds derived from SD1, OKI Regional Governments and the remainder from the City of Dayton. This project will go out for bid in late winter/early spring 2024.


Grant Park Drive Stormwater Mitigation

Project Overview: Water runoff from underground springs has eroded the concrete roadway in areas of Grant Park Drive in Dayton, KY. The water also causes slippery and hazardous surfaces during freezing periods in the winter seasons.

January 2024 Update:

The City of Dayton has coordinated with SD1 to provide a 50/50 matching grant to gain the funds necessary to repair the roadway. The City of Dayton needs the underlying issue of the water runoff from private property to be addressed as well, or any new roadway will meet the same fate as the current road. The City of Dayton has reached out to the Grant Park HOA but has yet to receive a response.


6th Avenue Bump Outs

Project Overview: The City of Dayton is constructing “bump outs,” also known as curb extensions, along 6thAvenue In the Central Business District (the 500 and 600 blocks of 6th). The project will also install decorative street lighting along the avenue.

January 2024 Update:

 The City is continuing to work with Duke Energy to cover the bases of the light poles. Duke has attempted to utilize two separate cover types; however, the City of Dayton was not satisfied with these efforts and have rejected them.


Dayton Pike Sidewalk Phase 2

Project Overview: The City of Dayton is looking to construct a five-foot-wide sidewalk along the west side of Dayton Pike. The project, once finished, will connect the cities of Fort Thomas and Dayton, Kentucky. Phase 1 of this project comprised of a sidewalk that connected 7th street to Chateau Ridge and has been completed. Phase 2 will begin at Chateau Ridge and will terminate at the city limits of Fort Thomas and Dayton.

January 2024 Update:

The City is coordinating with Duke Energy and Alti Fiber due to their prospective lines being involved in the path of the sidewalk. The City is waiting for their approval of the plans, which looks to be finished in late February 2024 according to both utility companies.


Upper Riverfront Trail

Project Overview: The City of Dayton is looking to construct/repair the walking trail path on the top of the current levee wall in Dayton, Ky. The new trail would add benches, install electrical conduit, and would widen the existing trail.

January 2024 Update:

The City of Dayton has delayed this project due to lack of funding.


Berry Street Connector

Project Overview: The Developer of Manhattan Harbour is constructing a connector piece of roadway that would connect Manhattan Boulevard to Berry Avenue in Dayton, KY.

January 2024 Update:

Project Complete


7th Street Slide

Project Overview: The City of Dayton is seeking funding to stabilize the hillside along 7th Street in Dayton, KY.

January 2024 Update:

The City of Dayton has received $70,000 in funding to put toward geotechnical exploration and design work for the infrastructure needed to stabilize the slide. The City of Dayton will continue to search for funding for this project, which is generally estimated to be several hundred thousand dollars of work.

  • Traffic congestion of 6th Avenue
  • Water retention issues since the repaving of 6th Avenue
