The City of Dayton debuted a second ‘Top 10’ list of vacant and abandoned properties at the November 16 City Council meeting. The program, created by City Administrator Jay Fossett, prioritizes the most impactful and neglected properties in the city. Code Enforcement Officer Cassie Patterson utilizes the lists to determine what properties require her immediate attention.

Having made progress on the first ‘Top 10’ list (above left), city staff created the second list (below) with the hope of continued success. “The City’s goal is to bring the properties back into compliance with city ordinances and the International Property Maintenance Code,”  Patterson said. “I am happy to work with the community and understand that there are extenuating circumstances in some cases. We just want to correct any issues as soon as possible.”

Two properties on the first list, 701 Boone Street and 629 4th Avenue, have since been demolished due to their unsafe condition. 1015 7th Avenue is scheduled for demolition in the near future. Other properties, including 313 6th Avenue, 1020 3rd Avenue, and 415 8th Avenue are in the process of being rehabbed by new owners.
