A number of public improvement projects have been completed, are underway, or about to start in the City of Dayton. Here’s an update on those projects:

Construction of Phase II for Riverfront Commons. The city advertised last week for construction bids for this project last week, which will add about three-quarters of a mile to the Riverfront Commons’ river’s-edge trail in Dayton. This trail is part of a larger 11.5-mile trail system that runs from Dayton to Ludlow. The bids are due to be opened on July 28. After the city council approves a contract for the lowest and best bidder, work is expected to start on this project this fall, with an expected completion date of April 2023. Design plans for Phase III are currently underway and the city is hopeful that the final leg of this river’s edge trail will be constructed next year.

Sidewalk construction projects. Adleta Construction has substantially completed its construction work on the sidewalk projects along Dayton Pike and on Upper Belmont Road. Some punch list items remain to be done, including moving utility poles on Belmont. The work on the curb extensions (bump-outs) on Sixth Avenue is not expected to start until August. New concrete aprons in front of the firehouse were completed two weeks ago.

Manhattan Boulevard extension. Work has started on this project, which will complete Manhattan Boulevard from just past the Manhattan on the River Apartments to Mary Ingles Highway. Because of this work, Dodd Drive from Mary Ingles Highway to the Manhattan Harbour Marina is currently closed. If you now wish to drive to the marina, you must now access it from Manhattan Boulevard at 5th and O’Fallon. Once work on this road is finished, construction work on the Berry Street connection to Manhattan Boulevard is expected to start within 45 days.

Stormwater improvements at 4thand Kenton Street. Work on this stormwater improvement project is expected to start later this month.
Ky. 8 repaving project. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is expected to repave Ky. 8 (Sixth Avenue, Clay Street, and Fourth Avenue) after the Sixth Avenue bump-outs and the stormwater improvements at 4thand Kenton are completed.
City streets repaving project. The city has entered into a contract with Riegler Paving repave seven streets in Dayton, which is expected to done in late summer or early fall. The following streets will be paved:

  • Benham Street from Second to Third Avenue
  • Chateau Ridge from Dayton Pike to Dayton Avenue
