The Dayton Heritage Museum preserves and exhibits the rich history of the City of Dayton in a museum in the heart of the city’s Central Business District.

Charlie Tharp, a local businessman and historian who, donated the building to the City for the museum. During his 52 years in business in Dayton, Tharp collected a vast archive of Dayton historical artifacts, documents, and photographs, dating back to when the first settlers arrived in 1779. The museum is run by a three-person board appointed by the mayor.
